Media?
What is media?
To make it short, media is the main means of communication in society, like an update on something mostly on the internet. That's basically how news spread in this era of technology, whether it's regarding entertainment, education, data etc. Are there any other medias other than the internet? Yes. Moving back to the earlier days before the internet happened, we have newspapers which we still use till now, radio, cable TV, billboards, posters, even pigeons(?) Literally, just anything as long as it is able to spread news.
The most common used type of media nowadays is social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Linkedin, you name it. People can actually make money by just spreading news through what ever medium available. Not just news, it can be an article about the most random things like why do cats have fur and pigs don't? It may sound a bit silly but people actually read it and if you get enough followers or subscribers you could actually earn money from that. How easy it is to earn money in this era? We just need to be creative and inspired.
Movies are also a type of media people use to promote something like a brand. Some movies are sponsored by one or two companies. For example, Marvel's Spider-Man trilogy sponsored by Sony and Marvel's Iron Man trilogy sponsored by Audi. Why are these movies sponsored by these companies? They're using these movies to promote their brand. That's a creative way to use the media.
Another famous media used by promoters nowadays are posters. Have you ever been to a place that are free of any kind of posters other than the forest? I bet you haven't. Posters are everywhere, on the walls of public buildings, traffic lights, notice boards, shop doors, street lights, road signboards, toilet stalls, elevators, everywhere! Whether it is legal or illegal to use that space to place posters, they're just there.
Basically, everything around us is media. One of the most significant powers the media has is that of being able to shape opinions. As long as it is able to attract other people's attention and affect their opinions or way of thinking, it's media. Even humans are a type of media. Say you're wearing a nice suit from Armani to a dinner and someone is very fond of your suit and starting to ask who is the designer and you told him it's Armani. Later on, he talks about Armani to his wife and his wife talks about it to her friends and her friends talk about it to their husbands. You sir, just promoted Armani without even realizing that you did. Isn't that what media are used for? Spreading something to society? Yes.
So, what is media? Media is everything.
